I’m a beginning musician currently learning to play the recorder and to compose short musical pieces.
While I improvise on alto and tenor recorders, I compose pieces digitally in apps such as Dorico, Cubasis and MuseScore. The pieces below are voiced with digital instruments.

Compositions

The Barn at Evening imagines an old barn that still entertains people who gather to dance and to tell old stories that get more tense with each telling.

Last Saturday for cello and piano is a second, shorter version of this composition. Its dynamic cello is backed by an energetic piano accompaniment.

After Hours is a lyrical late-night mood built on gentle but persistent tension, with a melody that implies an improvised jazz harmony.

Last Saturday is an original composition, shaped by the feeling of a warm Saturday with bright blue skies, light winds, and a walk through the woods.

An Elegy is a meditation on loss and remembrance. While acknowledging sorrow, the music affirms the enduring warmth of love and the vibrancy of memory. Composed in memory of the late Dr. William Henry Cooper, Jr.

I composed Awaiting You as I waited on my wife’s delayed flight home. The music unfolds in gentle dialog. The flute’s plaintive melody weaves above the cello’s line, echoing uncertainty and hope in waiting for a loved one.
