I’m an amateur musician. Currently, I’m learning to play recorder and piano and to compose short musical pieces.
While I improvise on recorders and a midi keyboard, I compose pieces digitally in apps such as Dorico, Logic Pro and MuseScore. The pieces below are voiced with digital instruments.
All music is copyright (C) by Steven H. Gordon.
Compositions

A Stillness of Geese portrays geese gracefully, casually gliding on the water and gently riding the currents of the air before coming to rest in the water again.

Daybreak is a composition that paints a portrait of dawning light. Within that light, a life busy with awakening nature emerges.

The Barn at Evening imagines an old barn that still entertains people who gather to dance and to tell old stories that get more tense with each telling.

An Elegy is a meditation on loss and remembrance. While acknowledging sorrow, the music affirms the enduring warmth of love and the vibrancy of memory. Composed in memory of the late Dr. William Henry Cooper, Jr.

Last Saturday is an original composition, shaped by the feeling of a warm Saturday with bright blue skies, light winds, and a walk through the woods.

I composed Awaiting You as I waited on my wife’s delayed flight home. The music unfolds in gentle dialog. The flute’s plaintive melody weaves above the cello’s line, echoing uncertainty and hope in waiting for a loved one.

After Hours is a lyrical late-night mood built on gentle but persistent tension, with a melody that implies an improvised jazz harmony.
The American Recorder Society
I am a member of the American Recorder Society and am honored that several of my compositions have been accepted for the Society’s online Music Libraries.
As their website states, “The mission of the American Recorder Society is to promote the recorder and its music.” Please visit and discover all that the Society offers.
